Driving in Ireland 2010
Driving in Ireland 2010 by Robin Piggott:-ADI 34894On the First of September 2010 the RSA announced the commencement of sweeping changes to the whole system of Learning to Drive and the Driving Test! These will commence before the end of the Year 2010 and will continue to be rolled out over the next two years. Graduated Licensing SystemThe Introduction of the Graduated Licensing Systemhas been way overdue and will certainly bring Ireland closer to the top ranking systems that are in place in other Developed Countries. Mandatory Driving LessonsThese commence for Motorcyclists before the end of the Year 2010. For Car Drivers Mandatory Driving Lessonscommence in April 2011 and will take the form of 12 hours of Tuition which will be recorded and signed off by the Instructor. A Driving Test will not be permitted without this documentation! Restricted Novice DriverFor two years AFTER passing the Driving Test Drivers will carry "R" Plates and will be controlled by lower Blood Alcohol Limits. The three main offences of Speeding, Non wearing of Seat Belts and Mobile Phone Usage will attract a higher level of Penalty Points and therefore a Restricted Driver will reach the Disqualification of License situation much more quickly if these Laws are disresgarded! We will discuss all these coming regulations in more detail in due course! In the meantime don't expect to Pass the Driving Test without taking Driving Lessons from an RSA Approved Driving Instructor or ADI as we are known. |
