The Cancellation List
Advice on the Cancellation List. The Cancellation List is a facility to Drivers who have an urgent need for work related reasons to sit and pass their Driving Test and obtain their full license. You cannot just apply to get on this list...you must have an accompanying letter from an employer. If this is accepted by the Department you could expect to obtain a Driving Test Appointment in about 5-8 weeks although there is absolutely no guarantee. The most important point to bear in mind is that you will not get one months' notice as is the norm but will probabbly get a telephone call at very short notice. You need to be at Test Standard before the request is sent and to have your Car for the Test well sorted out; whether it is your own car or the Driving School Car that you hire for the Day. Here is a letter sent to a pupil recently which gives an insight into getting onto the Driving Test Cancellation list. Names have been changed....
Hi David, Greeeeat to hear from you! I will be happy to help you work towards Test Standard. Here is what you need to do first off... You need to attach your own letter with the College request giving the date, after which you will be available. This will give you (us) time to do the necessary preparation. I haven't obviously seen your driving standard for a long time so I suggest firstly we arrange a session where I will take you on a Test route under full test marking conditions (this will be quite a shock to the System!). This will give us both an idea of the techniques that need to be enhanced. Then I will tell you what I think you will need in terms of In-Depth preparation(this is not just Driving Skills but intimate knowledge of Test Routes and their specific hot spots)This is likely to be in the region of 6 to 8 hours (3-4 sessions) Once we agree on the time frame and preferably also the days and times (for the full period) then with the Diary you can project forward to the point where you will be ready for a Test Appointment. You can then give the Dept the date after which you can accept an appointment. All of the above has to be collated since if you just send a letter off you could get a test date in just a couple of weeks and you won't be ready. Will you need to use the School Polo Tdi? Or have you a car now or will you use Sinead's Polo. Also in your letter you could specify which of the two Test Centers you would prefer. Mungret is usually a little shorter in duration (which is an advantage) but it depends on the day of the week and the time of day. What I suggest is, we do preparation from both Test Centers and you could choose. I am not aware however, of whether the Dept will take your preference into account when you are on the Cancellation list. Can I suggest we meet as soon as possible and get the show (!) on the road?
