Test Centres

All major towns have a Driving Test Centre with numerous Centres in Dublin and Two Centres inLimerick at Woodview Shopping Centre and on the Dock Road at CastleMungret. This latter Centre which opened in 2004 is the Regional Truck and Motorcycle Test location covering five or six counties.

There are specific instructions for Learner Drivers and Driving Schools not to use this purpose built Centre for practise purposes. Also well marked are the Parking spaces for Examiners which cannot be used during opening hours.

In addition you will find requests not to be practising on Test Routes during the day although it is a little difficult to avoid driving on some of the sections if one is getting to know the Area prior to a Test., which everyone needs to be able to do!

It is a good idea to have a look at the Test Centre briefly during opening hours to get a feel for what is going on and who goes where. Both Centres in Limerick are very busy with much other Traffic so a reconnoitre is essential in order to spot possible hazards while leaving and entering the Test Centre at the end of your ordeal!

It is not at all unusual to be faced with a difficult situation as you are leaving a Centre at the start of your Test and if this is badly handled you may already have picked up a disqualifying fault before you have even got going. (Not much Fun!)
