Hazards on a Motorway
Hazards on a Motorway. Section 4
Hazards such as thick fog , accidents; Garda road blocks or temporary lane layout changes due to road works are much less common here in Ireland than in England but therefore potentially more dangerous for the unsuspecting Driver since we don’t have the experience in dealing with them. Weather conditions here in Ireland again are less severe than is often experienced in the U.K and of course the amount of multi lane Motorway here in Ireland is miniscule by comparison to the UK network of Motorway miles. Driving on a Motorway in the UK requires you to be a very experienced Driver with several years of constant driving under your belt after Passing the Driving Test if you are going to stay safe. It also requires you to have mapped out your route in writing with all the exit and entry numbers recorded and ideally, to carry a navigator with you who will constantly update you with the route and exit numbers. The reason for treating your Motorway trip with some serious attention and planning is that unlike a trip to the shops or the next town you can’t just do a turnabout if you make a mistake. A mistake will often leave you with a twenty or thirty mile round trip to get back to where you wanted to be in the first place. There just aren’t exits every few hundred meters or even every few miles …often it could be ten miles before the next turn off! By which time you will be hopelessly lost when you have exited the Motorway. Does this sound like the voice of experience? Absolutely You Bet you’re Life! If the mistake is at night then you had better look for a B&B!
