Essential Driver Training

IN April 2011 the long awaited Step of Graduated Licensing for Learner Drivers commences in Ireland with the Introduction of Essential Driver Training {EDT}.

In a nut shell this will mean that all Learner Drivers obtaining their Learner Permit after 4/04/2011 will be unable to sit their Driving Test without a certifciate from their Registered R.S.A Instructor.

The Certifciate will have been signed off to the effect that 12 hours of structured Lessons each of one hour, and relating to a specific sylabus have been sucessfully completed.

The R.S.A are expecting that these 12 one hour (approx) Lessons will be spread over the six months that you will have to wait before being allowed to sit the Driving Test!

Does this mean that the 12 hour syllabus will equip you with the skills to Pass the Driving Test First Time?

No It Won't. This 12 hour EDT program will be in addition to all the other hours of Tuition that it will take to bring you up to the standard of a Driving Test Pass, together with private practise!

Under the Bonnet ChecksThe EDT program is designed to cover many of the Essential Skills needed to become a safe and competent Driver and to ensure that Drivers presenting themselves for the Driving Test are at a suitable standard.

Of course having undergone the full EDT program and taken considerable other lessons does not Guarantee that you will Pass the Driving Test First Time. You not only have to know and understand .This is what usually trips candidates up during their Test! They are not able to fully implement what they have learnt! This is why lots of practise is essential!

Passing your Driving Test First Time has nothing to do with Lady Luck..it is purely down to excellent and thorough Planning. You have never done the Driving Test before so how do you know what you should be doing and planning? Have a look at the Photo above...you'll need to know your way around under the bonnet from Day 1!

Good Question...easy answer...you take Pre Test Tuition from a Professional Driving Instructor. Definitely not a friend or relative. A Professional Instructor will know all the angles (and there are many) and will recommend probably six or eight hours of in-depth, fine tuning to bring you up to speed AFTER you have learnt to Drive competently and completed the EDT schedule.

Can't make the time? Then you have no business sitting the test!
Tough but True!
