Driving Test Cancellations in Free Fall!
We have outlined in the past the various reasons for the ever lengthening delay in getting a Driving Test Appointment.
What is often overlooked is the huge number of cancellations, at the last minute, which of course cost the Department a huge headache and still more delays with the waiting list!
Last minute cancellations mean that the slot cannot then be allocated to a more deserving individual who has taken the time, effort and money to prepare for the Test.
There are at least ten per cent "no shows" which illustrate the level of seriousness that many young (and not so young) drivers view the Driving Test with...
There are over 27,000 provisional license holders on their fifth license which equates to 8 years behind the wheel; and over 30,000 on their fourth provisional license without having passed the Driving Test.
All of this adds up to a huge army of learner drivers who will continue to avoid the driving Test at all costs until they are forced to do otherwise.
If you can afford to buy a car (any car) and afford to run it (not easy on the wallet) and use it regularly (more expense) then you have an obligation to take professional tuition (not inexpensive) and reach a standard where you will not only be safe but be capable of passing the Test.
Any one who does not accept this principle should not be behind the wheel...Period.
Learning to drive should be based on sound foundations and not a few hours with Mum, Dad, the Boyfriend, Girlfriend, nextdoor neighbour or heaven forbid, a driver with less than three or four years of experience!
If you are going to go down this route you are putting yourself and other road users at extreme risk. Whiling away the hours traveling on main roads or carriageways, while useful after you have learnt the basics, will not bring you nearer to passing the Driving Test.
You must take plenty of practice on city routes at different times of the day in order to fine tune the skills needed to pass the Test (and to be safe!)
